Over the years, I have come to find out that I don’t like stress. I enjoy soft and sweet life. I work hard but enjoyment is often on my to do list.
I have been receiving a lot of messages from my friends abroad and they are curious about the state of Nigeria. It’s not easy being a Nigerian this season. You will be looking for soft life and somehow, someone won’t see it.
Many years ago, a neighbor packed out of our compound, so we converted his apartment to a mini field where we played football. I noticed a stash of newspaper from say 1980 there about and it caught my attention, so I picked them up and delved in. See, every bad thing you can think of was literally happening way back then; thefts, bad roads, electricity issues, bad water, bad government and all that stuff. It was even a bit better back then, if NEPA for example wanted to work on your transformer, they would send a notice.
But for the first time it dawned on me that Nigeria is a project that many people don’t want to see become successful, because many would not benefit from the greatness of this Nation.
There’s a gift we have; It’s good and bad at the same time. We know how to adapt. We have adapted to bad government for a long time that it has now become a part of us. We are used to bad leaders that when we see a leader with good intentions, we judge him or her based on the standards that bad leaders have set.
If this current rogbodiyan we are facing economically were to happen somewhere else, they would have revolted but somehow somewhere deep down, Nigerians have thick skin for Wahala. This is our problem.
Can we be soft again? Because as for me, I don’t like stress and I will vote for Peter Obi.
Thanks I just learnt a new word “, “rogbodiyan”. Yes, this our thick skin for wahala is truly a blessing and a curse!
